In 2010 United Nations recognised six language days after the six official languages of United Nations, which is English, Spanish, Arabic, French, Chinese and Russian, to bring light on the history and culture of the respective languages. The United Nations selected 20th of March for French language day in the honour to the 40th anniversary of the international organisation of La Francophonie which was created on March 20th, 1970.
French Language Day is observed to celebrate the culture, history and the achievements of French language. French comes from the Latin group of languages which was developed between 5th and 8th century. It is now spoken by roughly 275 million speakers and across 25 countries. Like English, French is spoken in all the five continents and it is also language with many dialects.
